The following is a statement from BCBSNC in response to NCDOI's Voluntary Settlement Agreement:

“I really enjoyed last year’s clinics and I learned from the girls as much as I taught them,” said Hamm. “It’s a thrill every time I come back to North Carolina, where so much of my growth and development as an athlete – and as a person – took place. “We are working hard to make the Affordable Care Act work for our customers and our company,” said BCBSNC President and CEO Brad Wilson. “The federal government’s failure to honor its legal obligations contributed significantly to our ACA losses in 2014 and 2015 and makes it more challenging for our company to continue selling ACA products to our customers.”

“In 2015, we saw rising prices for many drugs, both generic and name brand drugs, that a large number of ACA customers use,” said Brian Tajlili, director of actuarial and pricing services for BCBSNC. “In fact, seven drugs cost our company over $139 million to cover ACA customers last year .”
