Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (BCBSNC) and UNC Health Care today announced Carolina Advanced Health as the name for the new medical practice developed by the two organizations that will open later this year. Dr. Thomas K. Warcup, the practice’s medical director, will be charged with leading the practice in which patients – not just their symptoms – are the focus of care.

“This alliance with Allscripts puts our state on a path to better health outcomes driven by high standards,” said Brad Wilson, BCBSNC president and CEO. “By providing more than 750 physicians with this technology and support, they are better able to coordinate care – an important step toward improving our health care system.”

In turn, thanks are due to the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina Foundation, which gave CIS a grant of $100,000 last year. This allowed CIS to begin expanding its program even further.

BCBSNC values its relationships with both the State Health Plan and the State Auditor’s Office, and we believe discussions about how to improve efficiency within the Plan will be most effective if they are based on accurate, current and complete information.
