The following is a statement from Brad Wilson, BCBSNC president and CEO
The Affordable Care Act (ACA) Annual Enrollment Period begins today. This is the time when North Carolinians and their families can purchase health care coverage for 2017. Because of our decision to continue to participate in the Affordable Care Act, all people in our state, in all 100 counties, have the peace of mind that they have access to the coverage they need. However, the last-minute addition of about 240,000 members from UnitedHealthcare and Aetna may strain our customer service capability this year.
To help ensure you are able to receive your medicine and keep your medical appointments, we’ve made it easier for you to verify your coverage. You have access to a Verification of Coverage (VOC) letter that can be used as proof of coverage, if you renew your plan for 2017, until you receive your ID card. You can also print or download an online version of your ID card.
Health insurance and your care are important and personal decisions. Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina has a variety of federal Marketplace plans to choose from. Remember when you’re choosing a plan, to compare all benefits, in-network doctors and pharmacies, as well as the monthly premium payment.
We encourage you to shop early, compare plans and complete the enrollment process before December 15 for coverage starting January 1. The 2017 enrollment period ends on January 31. There are many online resources available to help answer questions, including:
