CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (BCBSNC) has announced Anita Brown-Graham, director of the Institute for Emerging Issues (IEI) at North Carolina State University, as the newest member of its board of trustees. BCBSNC’s board consists of community leaders across North Carolina with varied backgrounds in health care, education, business and finance.

“Anita’s leadership and commitment to connecting communities to create change will provide a remarkable perspective for our company,” said BCBSNC President and CEO, Brad Wilson.   

Brown-Graham has served as director of the IEI since January 2007, leading programs of work around public policy initiatives that include health care, economic development, tax and finance modernization, energy and the environment, and higher education. Prior to joining IEI, she worked at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s School of Government for 13 years, training communities in strategic planning to revitalize their distressed rural communities. She has provided significant training for state and local officials, and wrote books and articles focused on developing the economic base of distressed communities.

In 2013, she was recognized by The White House as a Champion of Change for her exemplary leadership in the category of open government.

Brown-Graham earned an undergraduate degree from Louisiana State University and, after attending graduate school at LSU, she earned a law degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
