  • BCBSNC recognized for the HealthNAV App marketing campaign.
  • Four other BCBSNC submissions received Certificate of Finalist Recognition.
  • More than 2,800 entries from organizations of all sizes in all industries were submitted.
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (BCBSNC) won the Insurance Marketing Campaign of the Year Award at The 2011 American Business Awards presented on June 20. The American Business Awards are known as “Stevie Awards” and are highly prestigious. Of the three marketing campaigns honored as finalists in this category, BCBSNC created two of the campaigns. BCBSNC campaigns were also recognized as a Stevie Award finalist in four other categories including Public Relations, Internal/Employee Communications, Sales and Marketing Campaign of the Year – Insurance.

“The recognition of our marketing expertise with this American Business award for our HealthNAV campaign is most gratifying for our team here at Blue Cross” said John Roos, BCBSNC chief sales and marketing officer. “Obviously, the HealthNAV app is the real story here, in that it delivers what our customers are looking for to help them make health care less expensive and more convenient.”

The HealthNAV app is designed to help on-the-go customers quickly search for the closest, in-network urgent care center, look up prescription drugs, contact customer service, and manage their personal health care information. The HealthNAV marketing campaign ran from Oct. 1 to Dec. 31, 2010 and encouraged customers to download the free app.

During the campaign, BCBSNC placed ads in North Carolina’s three major airports, placed posters in sports and entertainment arenas, ran radio spots during local sports broadcasts and ran an online banner ad that directed people to the HealthNAV landing page. This approach focused on advertising that would connect with people on the go to reinforce the convenience of the app. In only a few months, the advertisements resulted in more than 800 downloads of the app.

Stevie Awards were presented in more than 40 categories including Best Overall Company of the Year, Executive of the Year and Best New Product of the Year. More than 2,800 entries from organizations of all sizes and in virtually every industry were submitted for consideration, and more than 200 executives across the country participated in the judging process to determine the Finalists and Stevie Award winners.
