Anthem Provides Credit Monitoring and Identity Protection to Consumers Affected by Data Breach

BCBSNC continues to work closely with Anthem around the clock to determine who may be impacted by the data breach announced last week at Anthem. While the breach did not affect BCBSNC’s systems, any Blue Cross Blue Shield plan customer who lives in or who has received health care in an Anthem service area – which includes 14 states – since 2004 may have been affected.

Anthem will notify consumers affected by the breach via U.S. Mail beginning later this month. This notification process could take up to several weeks, but in the meantime customers of Anthem or any Blue Cross and Blue Shield plan who are concerned that they may be affected can sign up for two years of credit monitoring and identity protection beginning Feb. 13.

Anthem customers who have opted to receiving communications may receive an e-mail next week directing them to sign up for these services. This email will not ask for personal information and will not contain a link to any websites other than AnthemFacts.com.
